Barbecue

We%26#39;ve been told that St. Louis is famous for barbecue restaurants and we want to know which one is the very best! Coming from Canada Aug. to 20th. Thanks

Barbecue

Ummmm. Wrong side of the state. Actually Kansas City is FAMOUS for barbeque!

We, here in St Louis, are famous for our italian food. We have an area of town called ';The Hill'; with FANTASTIC, Italian eateries. Affordable, authentic, and the BEST in the Midwest. If you go to any of the eateries, you MUST order our city specialty as an appetizer: Toasted Ravioli

If you need a rec for restaurants on the Hill... everyone on this forum would probably contribute their favorite.

As for Barbeque places... I am STILL looking for a great one in St Louis that is NOT a chain!

Our b-bque isn%26#39;t the greatest, unfortunatley

Barbecue

For overall barbeque, I vote for Super Smokers, although Bandana%26#39;s has the best ribs (dry rub). They are both local chains, though. Stay away from the Plush Pig in Clayton. The portions are small and fatty.

Yeah, if we HAVE to choose our fav is Bandana%26#39;s also...

If I had to choose I%26#39;d drive to Memphis, but SuperSmokers is our local favorite. Try http://www.supersmokers.com/ for locations.

I%26#39;m sure there are some small family owned places that just need to be discovered, but I haven%26#39;t found one yet.

If I had to drive somewhere for BBQ, if would be Arthur Bryant%26#39;s in Kansas City.

We do have some good barbeques, Super Smoker%26#39;s are all around town and they have great chicken wings at the ballpark. Unfortunately the worlds barbeque capitol is Kansas City about 4 hours away, maybe you got St. Louis confused with Kansas City. Although we do have KC Masterpiece whichn is originated in Kansas City next to the Chesterfield Mall, Which is about 30 minutes down the highway from downtown, although often it would take longer due to the traffic on highway 64/40 if you go for a weekday dinner. What we are famous for is italian food. The Hill is an Italian neighborhood with restaurants open for lunch and dinner off of I-44 but many restaurants are closed sunday and monnday ted drews a wonderful frozen custard place that is worth a visit is about 5-10 minutes south of the hill or something. I hope you enjoy your visit.

KC Masterpiece is no longer open in Chesterfield - they moved to Union Station.

As far as KC BBQ goes, KC Masterpiece is not real Kansas City Style BBQ in most BBQ afficionado%26#39;s opinion. Their sauces are rather sweet instead of spicy, which you find at all the traditional KC places.

KC Masterpiece is also upscale BBQ. Many people in KC refer to it as Johnson County BBQ since it is so upscale when compared to the more famous hole-in-the-wall places like Arthur Bryants and Gates (Johnson County is the yuppie, richer area of Kansas City). Don%26#39;t judge KC BBQ by KC Masterpiece since their flavor, or atmosphere for that matter, doesn%26#39;t really reflect true KC BBQ.

If you want great BBQ, drive West of St. Louis on Interstate 70 for 240 or so miles and get off at Exit 11 on 40 highway in Independence, MO (a suburb of KC). Take a right and Gates BBQ will be up the street about 1.5 miles. It is the greatest BBQ in the world, at least in my opinion.

I don%26#39;t mind the chain%26#39;s. I prefer Supersmoker%26#39;s to Bandana%26#39;s but my girlfriend is just the opposite. Actually think that Smokey Bones is currently her favorite.

I know of two small places that I really like though. Mama%26#39;s coal pot on Delmar in the loop, and Roper%26#39;s ribs on Lindbergh in north county. Haven%26#39;t been to Mama%26#39;s in awhile so I can%26#39;t confirm that it is still there but it was very good. I brought Roper%26#39;s back to work several times and everyone loves it. The baby back ribs are awesome.

Try Bandanas
