We%26#39;ll be heading to Hannibal from the Independence area on July 4th. I read a little about the Amish community of Jamesport and am wondering if it%26#39;s worth the 20-mile detour from Chillicothe as we%26#39;re heading east on Hwy 36. Are there any really interesting shops, a good place to eat lunch or photo ops?
Is Jamesport worth the detour; other sites along Hwy 36
Jameport, just as its slogan says, is a step back in time. There are many little shops and places to visit. http://www.jamesport-mo.com/ Wonderful food, quilts, etc.
You may consider some of the old town, or the scenic rural landscape to be photo worthy. The Amish prefer not to be photographed. Most Amish consider posing for photographs to be an unacceptable act of pride and do not allow pictures of themselves. The Amish will usually allow you to photograph their homes, farms, and buggies if you ask respectfully.
The little downtown Jamesport has some interesting shops and a corner restaurant with home cooked food.
If not in a hurry to get to Hannibal, Jamesport would be worth the trip.
