Baseball Trip

Hi all, We will be taking a baseball trip to Kansas City this summer, going to a Royals game. We prefer to stay in the downtown area where we can walk to restaurants, attractions, bars and entertainment. We would have a rental car to get to the game. What hotels would you suggest would best for this? We are looking at a mid-range budget, nothing super expensive. Thanks.

KC has 3 distinct areas in its urban core: Downtown, Crown Center and The Plaza.

Downtown would be near the new Power and Light District, and the Sprint Center.

Crown Center is near Union Station, Liberty Memorial, the Crossroads Art District, and Crown Center itself.

The Plaza is uniquely a place in and of itself, with restaurants, a few bars and shopping.

Any of these areas would be a great inner-city location to stay during a visit to the City. I will leave the post open to others to chime in on low cost hotels.

KC has way more than ';3 distinct cores'; in it%26#39;s urban area - there%26#39;s Westport, the Crossroads District, Quality Hill, Hospital Hill, Historic 18th %26amp; Vine District, and Historic Northeast, just to name a few.

Westport may also be an area you would be interested in - located a few blocks North of the Plaza with lots of restaurants, bars, entertainment. Also, there is a grocery store (Sunfresh) if you want to save a few bucks on snacks and drinks. I would check Holiday Inn Express - Westport, Quarterage Hotel %26amp; Embassy Suites to determine if they meet your budget requirements.

I recommend staying at the Downtown Marriott if you want to be near great restaurants and places to go out. The Power %26amp; Light District, which is filled with bars and restaurants, is just a couple blocks away and is the newest hot spot area of the city and is always buzzing with activity on the weekends.

I%26#39;d vote to stay in Power and light district or Plaza

Thank you for your responses we have decided to stay in the Power and Light District, still deciding on a hotel. Anyway, if we were to not rent a car, what public transportation would be available to get to the Royals game? Also, what about public transportation from MCI to downtown? How much would a cab be? Is there a train? Thanks so much.

We do not have any trains. From Airport to hotel check out KCI Shuttle- once you decide on hotel- see if they offer any transportation options
