Help please!

We will be coming for Skills USA in Kansas City in June and we know NOTHING about MO. I would like have any info anyone could help with. Where to stay close to the convention center, where to eat, what to do. We should have a couple days and evenings for 5 days to have some fun while we are there. My son is 18 and we are 40ish. LOL Also is the convention center in downtown KC or on the outskirts and if there is a website that may also help us get familiar with the area. Thank you so much in advance for any help.

The SkillsUSA event is held at Bartle Hall, which is in downtown KC. You will find you are within walking distance of the Downtown Marriott (note there are 3 Marriotts in KC), the Power and Light District (check rules on apparel before going) and the new Sprint Center arena.

Some ideas ...

* First stop for info: www.visitkc.com --- a good and improving site for all things KC.

* If your son likes sports, there is College Basketball Experience (kind of a hall of fame and hands-on exhibit) in the Sprint Center; the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum just east of downtown in the Jazz District on 18th St.; the Royals host the Cardinals on the 20th and 21st, but then leave town for the week, but the T-Bones minor league team is in town at The Legends in KCK.

* If music is his thing, The Jazz District is distinctly KC, with a museum and live performances in the Blue Room; check the events calendars on www.pitch.com (local alternative news site), kansascity.com (the Kansas City Star site) or www.lawrence.com (from the nearby host city of the University of Kansas, but often has better updated listings than the local papers, especially for events of interest to younger people)--- the touring shows can be spotty -- acts ranging from Del McCoury Band to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are slated that week -- but there is some good local and regional talent that%26#39;s worth finding. Be aware that some shows require that you be at least 21 years old to attend, some will be 18 and over, some will be ';all ages'; and some venues are pretty much all ages if parents come along ... don%26#39;t be afraid to ask.

* If it%26#39;s art, check out the Kemper Museum.

* Video games = Dave %26amp; Busters at the Legends in KCK.

* Water park: Ocean of Fun

* The Plaza area is usually always good for some walk-around time for mom %26amp; dad, as is Brookside and maybe Westport or the City Market (which is on the north side of Downtown.

Let us know what kind of things you might like, and the posters on here are pretty good at helping you find something that fits.

Liberty Memorial with the tower overlooking the city and the World War I museum would be a good choice too.
