Westport or St. Charles??/

We will be 2 single gals staying for the weekend. considering these two areas. Which do you recommend? We will go downtwon one of the days and hang out in the area we stay the other. we want to be able to walk to restaurants/bars.

I would suggest staying in St. Charles. Westport has decent restaurants and a few bars, a comedy club (Funny Bone), maybe a few shops that you can visit in about 30 minutes… a Sheraton Hotel and a lot of local commercial businesses. Not a lot to do there after you’ve walked around once. It kinda like a suburban mall without all of the high-end or the variety of shops or diversions. NOTHING of note to do in the general area. It’s pretty much a “self – contained” area. Pretty quiet at nite.

St. Charles has its Historic Area along the Missouri River (Main Street). You can easily find “crafty” things and walk to the various shops and storefronts if interested. It does have its share of smaller restaurants and beverage stops (Trail Head Micro Brewery is good) that you can easily walk to. Not a lot of “bars” that I’m familiar with … maybe someone has some better intel here.

There is the Ameristar Casino and (now) Spa in town too for late nite frolicking if interested. Might consider staying there (?) as it is “working” (bars and restaurants) late into the nite.

I like the suggestion of staying at Ameristar Casino. That is a very nice complex with multiple restaurants and bars to choose from and walkable. We like the Main St. area, as well, in St. Charles.

Just curious, though...why not consider staying downtown if you are planning on going there for a day? Much better choice of bars and restaurants, IMO.

There are several bars on Main St. in St. Charles as well. Most of them are north of where all of the little shops are. Trailhead is good for beer, but the food is pretty unimpressive, so I would recommend going there to try some of their beer but eating elsewhere. There are plenty of other choices nearby.

I would probably go with St Charles but you would be fine with either choice. There are plenty of bars in old St Charles but not many nice dance clubs. If you want to go dancing either try ';Home'; which is upscale and has a DJ or ';Bottleneck Blues Bar'; which has bands but will still has a good sized dance floor. Both are located at Ameristar casino which is at the South end of the St Charles riverfront area.

If the Cards are in town, going to a b ball game is lots of fun.-even if you don%26#39;t like baseball. (like me)) it%26#39;s just fun to be there. Lots to see and do around bush stadium.

St. Charles blows away Westport between the Ameristar and Main St. Harrah%26#39;s is just accross the Missouri river as well. If you like wine, visit the Winery of the Little Hills for a flight. If you like craft/antique type stores, Main St. is fun during the day, the north end at night.
