Need Help

I will be traveling across the US with my husband this coming summer. He’s a long haul truck driver and me and my son plan to join him for a few weeks every now and then. I have no clue where well end up stopping in your state so I was hoping you could all help me by telling me cool kid friendly places to see. I know there will be times where we’ll be waiting a day or so to pick up or drop off and I’d love to use that free time to explore areas. I’m the kind of person who likes to plan as much as possible. So any and all recommendations of places to stop and see would be greatly appreciated

Thanks so much for all your help

Lisa

Kansas City, Mo: Royals Baseball, Negro League Baseball Hall of Fame, WW!! Musuem, Steamboat Arabia Museum, Harly Davidson Plant, Harry Truman Home and Library in Indepence (next door to KC) Worlds of Fun Amusement Park and Oceans of Fun Water Park. I believe you can take tours of Arrowhead Stadium and Royals Stadium. THe Cabelas Store on the Kansas side of the stateline, along with the Kansas Speedway. The last 2 places are not in Mo, but are just across the border at KC!

Branson, Mo -- Many country music shows, many other music shows, Silver Dollar City, Whitewater Water Park, Many go cart tracks and minature golf parks, Dixie Stampede, TableRock Lake,Showboat Branson Belle., Bass Pro Shop

Lexington, Mo - Civil War Battlefield and many antebellum homes

Lake of the Ozarks %26amp; Osage Beach Mo : Boating, fishing, water skiing sports readily available. Several minature golf parks in the area.

These are just a few things I thought of quickly upon reading your post. Will add more as I think of them, as I%26#39;m sure others will offer many different suggestions!

Sounds like a fun summer!

Springfield Mo - Bass Pro Shop can take up many hours of the day, espec ially if you are the %26#39;outdoorsy%26#39; ty;pe, .

You might try visiting Stockton Lake. This is not a very busy lake but it is really pretty. The little town of Stockton has dining and is extremely friendly. I might recommend you stay at Mt. Carmel Inn or Owl Haven. You might check the webb site of www.lakestockton.com.

To add to the above list;

St. Louis - City Museum (a museum like no other, must see for all kids!), Zoo, Science Center, Magic House, the arch, Six Flags, and Meramec Caverns

Springfield - At Brass Pro there is an aquarium and a museum, also the Discovery Center, and the Incredible Pizza Co., Fantastic Caverns(not sure it%26#39;s really worth the money, but still pretty neat)

Osage Beach/Lake of the Ozarks - Miner Mikes (arcade, large play place)

Also if you%26#39;re in the south eastern area of the state, Elephant Rock State Park is a neat outdoor place to walk around, as is Alley Springs, and Johnson Shut-ins (although I haven%26#39;t been since the flood - you might want do a little research)

Jefferson City - state capital and museum.

Hannibal - Mark Twains birthplace neat little town and museum if you want to add a little education to your trip. If your son%26#39;s old enough to read Tom Sawyer or watch the movie before you go it helps to make it a little more interesting.

Several areas in Missouri (especially along I-70) have vineyards/wineries and offer tours (my personal favs. are in Hermann)

If you%26#39;re able, get off the beaten path a little and check out the river bluffs along the Missouri River

Will you be passing thru Colorado? If you come thru on I-70 there is so much to see especially when you reach the mountains. We, of course have the Denver Mint, and lots of stuff. If you want any ideas in Colorado, let me know and I will gather several for you. Just let me know your route. Tricia
